Texas College Steer Softball has successfully earned their spot in the 2024 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Softball Championship Tournament. Led by Coach Jasmine Becks, Texas College Alumna, Steer Softball collected a few notable wins throughout the regular season, including victories over nationally ranked NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M University and nationally ranked NCAA Division I Grambling State University, as well as San Jacinto College, a powerhouse nationally ranked NJCAA Division 1 junior college.

“Steer Softball qualifying for the RRAC Championship Tournament is a testament to the hard work the team and coach have put in to make this possible,” noted Athletic Director Randy Butler. “I couldn’t be more proud of the softball team and this accomplishment.”

The softball team’s motto for the year is “I belong here,” which the team has bought into. Evidenced by their collective hard work, Steer Softball has earned their spot and belongs  inthe RRAC Softball Championship Tournament. Alongside their motto, Coach Becks keeps the team motivated with scripture and has placed spirituality as a basis for the softball program.

“They all have a unique story, so I tell the team that ‘all things work together for the good of them,’” commented Coach Jasmine Becks, paraphrasing Romans 8:28.

While the Steers are clearly focused on honing their skills on the softball diamond, they are also focused in the classroom, another emphasis of the program. With over half of the team maintaining a 3.0 or above grade point average, nine softball student-athletes received academic recognition at this year’s Honors Convocation; these students were named either Presidential Scholars, Dean’s List Scholars, or Honor Roll Scholars.

The Steers finished the regular season with an overall record right at .500 (19-19) and enter the RRAC Softball Tournament as the number seven seed. The RRAC Softball Championship Tournament, formatted as an eight-team double elimination tournament, is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 4, in Pineville, Louisiana, at Louisiana Christian University. Texas College is scheduled to face off against LSU Alexandria, number two seed, on Saturday, May 4, at 12:00 P.M. noon (CT). Due to potential inclement weather, game dates and times may be subject to change. For the latest updates, visit the tournament's webpage listed below.
